There are currently two types of teen volunteers at Bastrop Public Library, and we have openings for both kinds!
Weekly volunteers are assigned a day
and a chunk of time (usually two hours) to come in and shelve books,
prepare program materials, clean storytime toys, create booklists, and
more. Weekly volunteers must be dependable, responsible, and good
communicators. If you are unable to make your shift, you MUST
communicate with Eva, the Teen Volunteer Coordinator. If you do not
show twice, you will be asked to step down from your volunteer position
so that someone else may volunteer on that day.
Special events volunteers are contacted
as needed to help with library programs, events, and other “all hands
on deck” activities. Eva will send out a message via Remind asking
who is available and willing to help, and they will communicate back to
express interest.
BOTH types of volunteers are required
to fill out the Teen Volunteer Application form and get one
non-family, non-friend reference.
Expectations
Please understand that when you submit
this application, you are making a commitment to us. The Bastrop Public
Library loves all of our volunteers, and we couldn’t function without
them.
In signing this application as a weekly volunteer, you are committing to volunteer at least 10 hours at the library!
If you are a special events volunteer, we will determine your hours on a case-by-case basis.
Volunteers are expected to be dependable, responsible, and regular in attendance.
Volunteers must abide by the library’s
dress code policy and code of conduct as outlined in the Teen Volunteer Policy and Procedures.
A complete knowledge of alphabetical filing is required.
Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system is preferred, but training is available.
In the event of an anticipated absence, please call/email/text me at least 24 hours in advance!
If you miss two of your scheduled times, without notification, you will be removed as a weekly volunteer.
The Bastrop Public Library thanks you for considering us for volunteering your time.
Weekly Teen Volunteer Tasks

If you apply as a weekly volunteer, during orientation, you will:
Be provided our library’s Teen Volunteer Policy and Procedures to review

In order to be a weekly volunteer, you must attend one of our mandatory orientations!

If you need special consideration, contact Eva Bernal, Youth Services Librarian and Teen Volunteer Coordinator at ebernal@bastroplibrary.org or (512) 332-8880.
Please return the completed application in person or via email to ebernal@bastroplibrary.org.
