STAY INFORMED! SIGN UP FOR NOTIFICATIONS TODAY!
The City of Bastrop partners with CAPCOG (Capital Area Planning Council of Governments) who recently upgrade Warncentraltexas.org, our regional notification system, from Code Red to Everbridge. The move brings better management of emergency and public safety warnings that you, our customer, may need to protect your family, property, and yourself.
We recently shared communications and details on our communication channels in conjunction with CAPCOG’s regional Public Information Officer network. These messages were intended to notify existing Warn Central Texas Code Red subscribers that they should have received an email from WarnCentraltexas.org asking them to update their contact information. The email gave you a link to a customer portal letting you update your voice, text, address and email information. You should have been able to interact with a much more robust and user-fiendly menu of options such as features like subscribing to national weather service updates. We continue to remind everyone to update their information via this new portal throughout the year.
Warn Central Texas is a program promoting voluntary registrations for the regional notification system (RNS) used by the Capital Area Council of Governments and its regional, government partners in Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson counties. The RNS program is powered by Everbridge, which allows local officials to contact people in their communities by cellphone, email, text or mobile app during times of disasters or public safety events.
Register now to receive regional notifications from local emergency response teams. Please note that the City of Bastrop Emergency Management Personnel are currently utilizing the system through our partners at the County of Bastrop. The City will be participating in training on the new program the week of October 21st. We want you to be among the first to receive critical information about emergencies and community alerts regarding natural and man-made disasters like floods. By registering you will automatically be enrolled to receive emergency notifications, but you can also opt-in to weather and community notifications. The definition of each notification type are:
Emergency Notifications (or Emergency Warnings): Messages sent from local emergency response teams for natural and man-made disasters and events that could include actionable tasks such as shelter in place or evacuation instructions.
Weather Notifications (or Weather Alerts): Automated messages from the National Weather Services for events such as tornadoes watches and warnings, flash flood warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings.
Community Notifications: Non-emergency messages sent from your local government. (Not available until November 1st)
