Attention Bastrop Property Owners!
New Short-Term Rental Rules Are Here!

The City of Bastrop has passed a new ordinance to help manage short-term rentals (like Airbnb and VRBO) and keep neighborhoods safe, welcoming, and well-maintained.

Here’s what you need to know:

Registration Required
All short-term rental properties must be registered with the City.

What You’ll Need to Register:
• Property address & owner info
• Local contact available 24/7
• Proof of tax payments
• Safety info like fire alarms & evacuation plans
• Info about your rental platforms (Airbnb, etc.)
To begin the registration process, visit: https://public.mygov.us/bastrop_tx
For more information about the MyGov permitting platform including tutorials and helpful documents, visit https://cityofbastrop.org/MyGov

Important:
• Each short-term rental must be registered — even if multiple are on the same property.
• Registrations must be renewed yearly.
• A $25 application fee applies.

Why this matters:
•This helps protect visitors and neighbors by making sure STRs are safe, legal, and properly maintained. Plus, it ensures local hotel occupancy taxes are paid, supporting public services.

Effective Date:
The Short Term Rental ordinance became fully in effect as of April 26, 2025. All STRs are now required to register with the City.
