The City of Bastrop Police Department is a rapidly growing community 20 miles east of Austin, Texas with a census population of 8,500 and a daytime service population of approximately 20,000. We are seeking professional police officers who are committed and dedicated to public service, possess a willingness and compassion to work together with the citizens of Bastrop to maintain a healthy and safe community.

Description:
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities. Tasks are service and protection-oriented, and include collecting and dispensing information, arbitrating disputes, providing assistance, protecting and recovering property, preventing crime, investigating, and providing other public protection services. Incumbents perform duties in accordance with state statutes and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. Performs related work as required.
Requirements:
Each applicant for the position of Police Officer/Patrol Officer shall have met at least the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS as mandated by TCLEOSE. In addition, the following requirements also apply:
  • United States Citizen
  • Must have attended a Police Academy in Texas and be TCLEOSE Certified Peace Officer or be certified and licenses in Texas by hire date.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with good driving record.
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Must have a stable employment record with no history of any conduct, which may affect suitability for law enforcement work.
  • Pass each step of the application process, which includes written exam, oral interview board, thorough background investigation, physical, drug screen and physiological evaluation.
Disqualifications:
An applicant SHALL be disqualified from consideration if he/she:
  • Does not meet the minimum requirements as set forth in above section.
  • Does not meet the qualifications necessary for performance of the duties of the position involved.
  • Has made any false statements or deliberate omissions of fact on the Application or Personal History Statement.
  • Has committed or attempted to commit a fraudulent act at any stage of selection process.
  • Would be in violation of the nepotism laws.
  • Fails to properly complete the application process or any application procedures.

Current Salary and Benefits:
Current Salary starting January 1, 2014 and based on 12 hour shift:
 Basic/Peace Officer 1  $45,256
 Intermediate/Peace Officer 2  $47,521
 Advanced/Peace Officer 3  $49,901

SIGN ON BONUS OF $5,000 AFTER 3-YEARS OF SERVICE / ADDITIONAL $5,000 AFTER 6-YEARS.
