The City of Bastrop is a rapidly growing community 20 miles east of Austin, Texas with a census population of just under 10,000 and a daytime service population of approximately 20,000. We are seeking professional police officers and interested cadets who are committed and dedicated to public service, possess a willingness and compassion to work together with the citizens of Bastrop to maintain a healthy and safe community.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS and APPLICATION PROCESS

 

Each applicant for the position of Police Officer/Patrol Officer shall have met at least the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS as mandated by TCOLE. In addition, the following requirements also apply:

 

  • United States Citizen
  • Must have attended a Police Academy in Texas and be TCOLE Certified Peace Officer or are eligible for our cadet program.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with good driving record.
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Must have a stable employment record with no history of any conduct, which may affect suitability for law enforcement work.
  • Pass each step of the application process, which includes:

 

  1. Submit city application and any required documents 

2. Schedule a ride along (bring PHS with you)

  3. Background Investigation

  4. Interview

  5. Fingerprints / Drug Screen

  6. Medical exam

  7. Polygraph

  8. Final interview 

DISQUALIFICATIONS

 

An applicant SHALL be disqualified from consideration if he/she:

 

  • Does not meet the minimum requirements as set forth in above section.
  • Does not meet the qualifications necessary for performance of the duties of the position involved.
  • Has made any false statements or deliberate omissions of fact on the Application or Personal History Statement.
  • Has committed or attempted to commit a fraudulent act at any stage of selection process.
  • Would be in violation of the nepotism laws.
  • Fails to properly complete the application process or any application procedures.
  • Illegal drug use (timeframe specific)

CURRENT SALARY AND BENEFITS

 

Current starting salary based on a 12 hour shift:
 
Peace Officer, less than 5 years police experience $60.230.90
Senior Peace Officer, 5 years or more police experience $66,329.41

Supervisors starting at $76,872.85

 
An additional;
 
$600 a year for an Intermediate License
$1200 a year for an Advanced License
$1800 a year for a Master Peace Officer License.

Education Pay

 

SIGN ON BONUS OF $5,000 AFTER 3-YEARS OF SERVICE / ADDITIONAL $5,000 AFTER 6-YEARS.
