First Female Police Chief, B3 Amendments, and Master Transportation Plan Update
04/14/2023

Hello Bastrop!

Chief Vicky Steffanic was pinned during the City Council meeting this week. Her husband, Matthew, did the honors. Ryan, Kinsey, and Olivia Steffanic led the pledges and were clearly proud of their mother being made the first female Police Chief of Bastrop. Congratulations, Chief Steffanic!

Deacon Paul Cooke with Ascension Catholic Church provided the invocation. Starting the meeting with pledges and invocation certainly set the tone for the meeting. The volunteers who do the honors at council meetings are greatly appreciated.

April is a busy month. National Lineman Appreciation Day is April 18, and National Library Week is April 23 – 29. Monarch Butterflies contribute to the environment and tourism. The City of Bastrop joined the National Pledge to encourage favorable habitats for the Monarchs during the journey to and from Mexico.

Visit Bastrop announced their latest initiative called GEM. Going the Extra Mile is an award program to recognize those in the service industry to help make our visitors feel welcome. Check out their website if you have any nominations for GEM.

Council unanimously approved several Ordinances that amend the Bastrop Building Block code to make things more economical and expedite development processes while providing public safety and orderly development within our community.

Kimley Horn was awarded the Master Transportation Plan update. The last Master Transportation Plan was updated in 2016. It is essential to keep the Master Plan current and coordinated with the regional plans of CAMPO and Bastrop County. State and Federal grants are available for roadways that are included in regional plans.

Council shared their recent activities, which included everything from Farm Street Opry to leading walks on National Walking Day. Please support your favorite non-profit by attending their fundraisers or volunteering. Together, we make Bastrop a great place to live.

Candidate Forums for Mayor and City Council Places 2 and 3 are scheduled for April 18. Please make an effort to get to know all the candidates so you can make an informed decision.

Enjoy this spring weather,
Mayor Schroeder
