?????? Solid waste services are suspended through Friday, February 4. Service is planned to resume on Saturday, Feb. 5th.
From solid waste contractor, “Our team remains on standby, weather permitting, for conditions to become suitable for resuming services at some point on Saturday, February 5th.
Once able to resume services, we will make every effort to catch up the services that were previously scheduled to occur on Thursday and Friday. Please have residents leave any uncollected carts at the curb to allow our crews to catch up. Asking residents to hold off placement of bulk items for collection will also help our efforts to catch up. Due to the length of suspension of services, there is a strong possibility that the impact of delays will roll into next week.”
Contact City of Bastrop Utility Customer Service at 512-332-8830 with any questions.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE from US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas  >>

A significant winter weather and icing event is unfolding this morning.
Freezing rain and sleet are ongoing across the Hill Country early this morning with icing impacts to roads already reported. The freezing rain and sleet will continue to expand southeast through the morning and into the afternoon making travel hazardous and very difficult, especially within the Winter Storm Warning area.
Also, overnight there was a band of heavier rain that developed along the I-35 corridor from San Antonio to Austin. Some low water crossing are still reported flooded so use caution early this morning. It's difficult to tell how the heavier rain that fell may have impacted any ice prevention operations that were recently conducted on area roads

Key Messages (from the US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas):

  • A very strong arctic cold front will move through South Central Texas Wednesday afternoon and evening bringing the coldest temperatures we have seen so far this winter.
  • Hard freezes are forecast, with a potential for some locations in the Hill Country to see a long duration freeze of up to 60 consecutive hours.
  • Bitterly cold wind chill values are forecast Thursday through Saturday morning.
  • Confidence continues to increase that a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet will occur across portions of South Central Texas by Thursday morning and continue possibly into the afternoon.
  • A medium to high confidence exists that freezing rain and sleet amounts could cause travel impacts through the Hill Country and into the Austin metro. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for this region.
  • A low confidence exists for icing impacts to occur farther south to a Del Rio to northern San Antonio to La Grange line.
  • A low confidence exists for a brief changeover to light snow across Val Verde, Edwards, and the northern Hill Country counties before precipitation ends.
