Drusilla Rogers

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Drusilla Rogers is a straight talking, common sense; make it happen kind of person.   She has been heavily involved in all things Bastrop since she got here 24 years ago.  Her Best of Bastrop candy gifts hop, The Sugar Shack, is a city landmark.  The 2010 Citizen of the Year was a founder member and President of the Downtown Business Alliance and has served on the boards of the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation, Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, and Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry.

WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE CITY OF BASTROP TEXAS

If you want something done, roll up your sleeves and start working.   That is the basis of my relationship with Bastrop.  When I got here 24 years ago I got involved and I got busy.   The best way to know a city is to get out and meet the people.  So I volunteered, volunteered and volunteered some more.   I chaired our Christmas Parade every year since 2007 and co-chaired the Yesterfest event for three years.  I’ve been fortunate enough to be asked to sit on several city and non-profit boards and was delighted to serve.

WHAT COMPELLED YOU TO SERVE AS A MEMBER OF THE BASTROP CITY COUNCIL?

We are growing fast.  I want a bigger Bastrop to be a better Bastrop.  Good policy decisions will mean we don’t lose our sense of community and our quality of life. I think I can bring some common sense thinking to those decisions.  Business owners have to look hard at their income and expenses; have to make sure they invest carefully and spend wisely.  I want to keep an eye on the public purse to be sure we have the resources we need to face our challenges without sticking the property taxpayers with the tab.

WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF BASTROP?

I see a Bastrop that has grown wisely with more resources and more opportunities for our citizens.  A place where there are thriving businesses offering good jobs, a place where people enjoy the beautiful historic heart of our city and wonderful life you can have here.  I want a city where government is transparent and represents all our people evenly and fairly.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

Two daughters, a son and six grandkids…. and...figuring out what wonderful new things I can put in my store to delight the child in my customers young and old.
