Chief Bill Anderson came to the Bastrop Police Department from Brady in 1997 with over 30 years of experience in law enforcement (including his graduation from the FBI National Academy) and significantly changed the stature of our department in his six years of service. He instituted such community oriented programs as Police Chaplain, Police Explorer, Neighborhood Crime Watch, National Night Out and Citizens Police Academy. He accomplished the construction of a new building to house our department and local courts. His greatest gift was much more personal, instilling in every member of the department his policies of honesty, integrity, dedication, courage and intelligence. Honoring these accomplishments, we have established this scholarship award.

This merit-based award is a $500.00 scholarship that may be renewed under certain conditions, payable to an accredited college, university or law enforcement academy to be used for tuition and books. The award will be presented at a ceremony involving the Bastrop Police Department. Funds will be available on the date of presentation and expiring on that same date one year later.

To be eligible to apply, you must be at least in the 12th grade or older, a student or graduate of a Bastrop County High School or a current resident of Bastrop County who plans to pursue a career in law enforcement or criminal justice. Candidates will be evaluated according to their academic record, leadership ability, extracurricular activities and personal statement on "Why I want to pursue a career in law enforcement".

The application process requires the candidate complete the application, along with:


-Three letters of recommendation (at least one from someone in law enforcement)

-A 500-word (minimum) essay on 'Why I want to pursue a career in law enforcement'.

-A transcript of his/her high school record (if in college, submit both college and high school transcripts).

Deadline (1) for furnishing the scholarship application and all requested documents is no later than March 15th to (April 15th in 2008 because of our late distribution)
