Chief's Report on National Night Out

On August 2nd during “National Night Out,” I was once again reminded of why Bastrop is one of the fastest growing communities in Texas.
Families and businesses searching for a place to call home, see how supportive Bastrop citizens are of each other, and how they come together for common causes, like sending the message that we will not tolerate crime in our neighborhoods. No longer will we standby and allow ourselves to become silent victims of crime, or to allow our friends and neighbors to become victims.

This is evident by the City’s 19% reduction in major crimes compared to this time last year. I credit this reduction to each one of you, our dedicated police officers and our elected District Attorney Bryan Goertz, whose office prosecutes those responsible for committing such crimes.

On behalf of the Bastrop Police Department, I wish to extend our deepest appreciation for all who celebrated this years National Night Out. During this community event our Police Officers, Police Chaplains, Police Academy Alumni Members, Fire Department, along with the Honorable Mayor Tom Scott, Mayor Pro-Tem John Creamer, City Manager Jeff Holberg, and District Attorney Bryan Goertz spent the evening visiting residents throughout the City. The hospitality and generosity shown by each of you was remarkable and goes without saying. We were honored and blessed by your kindness and generosity.

I would like to personally thank the many fine people responsible for hosting a “block party” in their neighborhood as well as those who attended. Your efforts and willingness to look out for your friends and neighbors, and the strong partnership with your Police Department has made Bastrop the greatest and safest City in the country. On August 2nd your message was heard loud and clear, Bastrop is not a place for criminals to pray on the innocence of our young, the vulnerability of our elderly, or the naive unsuspecting and trusting citizens of Bastrop. However, for those of you who chose to commit a crime in Bastrop, I assure you that we do have a place for you.

Thank You,
David L. Board
