City of Bastrop Mayor Tom Scott with Officer Shane Myers and Chief of Police David Board. Officer Myers received awards for Officer of the Year 2003 and the Police Chief's Award for Excellence 2003.

The Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Banquet and Awards Ceremony was presented by Bastrop Chief of Police David Board. Among the guest speakers were State Representative Robby Cook, Bastrop Mayor Tom Scott, City Manager Jeff Holberg, Mayor-Pro Tem John Creamer, Council Members Willie DeLaRosa, Dock Jackson, Terry Sanders and Martha Harris, Court of Appeals Justice Jan Patterson, District Judge Terry Flenniken, County Court-at-Law Judge Benton Eskew, County Judge Ronnie Mc Donald, Judge Wayne Smith Justice of the Peace for Pct # 1, Municipal Judge Phyllis Mathison, Superintendent of Schools Roderick Emanuel, Bastrop County District Attorney Bryan Goertz, District Clerk Kathy Smith, Sheriff Richard Hernandez, Former Police Chief Ronnie Duncan, Constable Roy Pruneda and Smithville Police Chief Dale Dockery. The Closing Prayer was offered by Pastor R.D. Smith.

Chief Board especially thanked Representative Robby Cook, the CPA Alumni Volunteers, the Police Explorers and police chaplains and this years Banquet Committee, Warren Pedersen, Bill Weddle, Cliff Wright and Debbie Royal.

Presentation of Tactical Awards:

Officers who have achieved their Advanced Certification in Law Enforcement, Basic Law Enforcement Instructors Certification and Field Training Certification.

1. Officer Jason Pierson - Advanced Certification in Law Enforcement
2. Officer Clint Nagy - Field Training Certification
3. Officer Shane Myers - Field Training Certification
4. Officer Clint Nagy - Basic Peace Officer Instructors Certification
5. Chief David Board - Basic Peace Officer Instruction Certification

Officer of the Year 2003: Patrolman Shane Myers

Certificate of Civic Achievement:

Certificate of Civic Achievement Awards are given to employees who distinguish themselves by participating in one hundred or more hours of community service that is not part of their normal assignment. This may include, but is not limited to, public talks, police explorers, Special Olympics or involvement in civic affairs.

6. Officer Derek Hodges: for his continued voluntary involvement and leadership as the advisor to the Bastrop Police Explores Post # 850 during the past two years.

7. Sergeant David Lopez: for his voluntary involvement as a Board Member for the Children’s Advocacy Center for the past two years.

Civilian Certificate of Achievement:

The Civilian Certificate of Achievement may be awarded to a Citizen who brings favorable recognition to law enforcement through outstanding involvement in community and civic affairs. This year’s Certificate of Achievement goes to three current members of the Bastrop Police Departments Citizen’s Police Academy.

8. Ken Mc Millan: for his continued and dedicated service as the Associate Advisor to the Bastrop Police Department Explorer Post # 850 and as past Vice President of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.

9. Ricardo Ruiz: for his support to the Department as demonstrated by serving two terms as the President of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni, and for his tireless efforts that made it possible for the Alumni Association to raise hundreds of dollars for police equipment and college scholarships.

10. Warren Pedersen: for his leadership as the current President of the Citizens Police Academy and for his tireless efforts during past fund raising events that also made it possible for the association to raise hundreds of dollars for police equipment and college scholarships.

Certificate of Merit:

May be awarded to a citizen or law enforcement officer for their outstanding performance over a prolonged period of time while assisting or working with the employees of the Police Department.

11. Leon Johnson: The second year recipient of this award goes to Leon Johnson. Leon has volunteered countless hours as a receptionist at the police department, saving the City thousands of dollars in man-hours.

Certificate of Appreciation:

Goes to any employee who has served at least ten years and leaves the Department for any reason, as long as the employee is in good standing at the time of departure.

12. Mrs. Bonnie Trujillo: After 17.5 years of dedicated and loyal service to the Police Department and to the City of Bastrop.

13. Michael Norman: After 15 years of dedicated and loyal service as patrol officer, school resource officer and the departments first ever k-9 handler.

The Police Chief’s Award for Excellence is presented to an officer, employee or member of the community for their professional and outstanding contributions to law enforcement and community they serve.
