New Crime Impact Team
The primary mission of the Crime Impact Team is to enforce drug laws and to provide leadership, cooperation, coordination, and support to all levels of law enforcement combating the drug problem within our jurisdiction. The Team will use all legal means available to search out and eliminate drug offenses as well as their related crimes, such as theft, assault, burglary and robbery. The Crime Impact Team is composed of five officers and one canine. The team supervisor and canine handler is Sgt. Clint Nagy. (See related article about “Kilo”.) Detective Sarah Moore is the team’s investigator. Other team members are Officers Brian Platts, Michael Nemcic, and Brandon McCutchen. Since its initiation in December, 2006, the Team has made at least a half dozen arrests, including apprehensions for felony and drug offenses. Information provided by the Team to the Patrol Division has also accounted for additional arrests.
Detective Division
The Detective Division has the primary duty of investigating all cases forwarded to it.
Currently, three detectives, Tamera Brown, Preston Kyle and Sarah Moore, investigate crimes for the Bastrop Police Department. When a case is received from the Patrol Division, a detective prioritizes the case based upon its nature and seriousness. Investigating a case may include such duties as processing the crime scene, collecting and preserving evidence, scheduling polygraph examinations, interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects. Detectives are also responsible for consulting with prosecutors and preparing cases for final disposition.
The most important goal of the Detective Division is to work together with the Patrol Division and other law enforcement agencies to bring criminals to justice. We all have the same goal – to serve and protect the citizens of our community.
