Bastrop Animal Control is a division of the Bastrop Police Department.
Animal Control is dedicated to serving the community as it relates
to both human and animal control issues. Animal Control services
is available 24-hours a day and they enforce both city ordinances
as well as state laws that pertains to animals and their humans.
Our Animal Control Officer, Linda Kaehn, is well-versed on animal
laws and is able to educate the public on animal issues. She is
assigned a 1996 F-150 pickup with over 56,300 miles that is equipped
with transport cages, traps, snares and other trapping equipment.
Officer Kaehn is most often called about stray animals, animals
at large and barking complaints. Our first priority is to inform
both the complainant, as well as the dog owner, of the laws in which
are not being followed. Most of the time we are able to address
the issues without court intervention.
Animals that are picked up in the City by Animal Control are taken
to the Bastrop County Animal Shelter located at 505 North Coolwater
Drive in the Lake Bastrop Acres Subdivision. Animal Control makes
every attempt to contact the animal's owner so that they may reclaim
their animal. To reclaim or to adopt an animal, you may contact
the Bastrop Animal Shelter at 321-1963 or you may contact Officer
Kaehn by calling the Bastrop Police Department at 321-5550.
The City and Bastrop County has entered into a cooperative agreement
to house animals picked up in the City, adoptions, collection of
fees, and euthanasia when necessary. Total monthly cost to the City
is approximately $12,000 a year minus collection fees paid by the
owners to reclaim their pet.
