Again, this method increases the amount of patrol visibility in
a specific area of the city. During this time frame the department
experienced decreases in residential thefts and home burglaries.
The speed radar trailer, purchased during the 2002-03 budget year,
has been a tremendous asset to the community. The department has
received numerous requests from citizens for the speed radar trailer
to be placed on their street, in hopes of reducing speed violations
and to provide the department with vital traffic data.
The department saw an decrease in the total number of traffic citations
issued this year compared to 2002. In 2002 the department issued
3,492 citations (including warnings) compared to 3,218 in 2003.
Almost half of all citations written are warnings.
In addition to answering calls for service, our Patrol Division
is encouraged to actively engage in community policing. Park and
Walk is one such program that stresses to our officers the importance
of visiting with citizens and business owners outside of their vehicle.
The officers listen to the needs and concerns of our citizens and
look for ways to work together to solve problems.
The police department is especially proud of our patrol officers
for the work they do to make our community safer. As our community
continues to flourish the demand for increased police services become
even greater. These officers have been able to provide quality service
without increased resources. They are truly dedicated to the community
they serve.
