David L. Board, Chief of Police.
The Bastrop Police Department is pleased to present the Third Annual Report to the City Manager, Mayor, City Council andthe Citizens of Bastrop, Texas. We hope you will find this years Annual Report interesting and as informative as we have, and if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to give us a call.

During 2003, the Police Department was very busy and heavily involved with enhancing our Community Police and Crime Prevention efforts. Both are necessary in creating a safe and crime free environment that can be enjoyed by all that live and visit this great City.

Because of this strong relationship between the Police Department and the Community and the hard work of our dedicated police officers and staff, our efforts have paid off. Despite our growing population, the Department has seen a 16% decrease in Part 1 Crimes and a 6% decrease in Part 2 Crimes.

Part 1 Crimes are the most serious crimes reported, such as murder, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle thefts. Part 2 Crimes are all other crimes such as alcohol related offenses, forgeries, weapon and fraud offenses.

This Annual Report will give you an in-depth look at the increase and decrease in the various types of crimes and what this Department has accomplished over the past year. As your Chief of Police, I can assure you that we have some of the most dedicated police officers and support personnel looking after your safety and security.

Please take an opportunity to review the report and should you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact me. We look forward to continuing to serve the fine citizens of Bastrop.
