ORDINANCE NO. 2006-31

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BASTROP,
TEXAS AMENDING SECTION 10.604 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO
ESTABLISH A TWO (2) HOUR PARKING ZONE ON THE EAST SIDE OF
PECAN STREET, BETWEEN CHESTNUT STREET AND WALNUT STREET; DIRECTING THAT SIGNS BE ERECTED TO REFLECT THIS CHANGE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.


WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bastrop recognizes the need to provide safe conditions for those traveling on public streets within the City; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to citizen input and information developed by the Bastrop Independent School District, the Public Works and Street Departments and the Police Department of the City of Bastrop, the Council has determined a need to control and regulate parking along the East side of Pecan Street, in the City of Bastrop, during certain times.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BASTROP THAT THE CITY CODE BE AMENDED AS FOLLOWS:

Part 1: Section 10.604 "Restricted Parking Zones" of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Bastrop is hereby amended as follows:

SEC. 10.604 - Restricted Parking Zones
(a) When signs are erected giving notice thereof, no person shall park a motor vehicle for more than two (2) consecutive hours, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., except Sundays and business holidays, in the following areas.
1.-10. (No Change)
11. On the East side of Pecan Street from the point of its intersection with Chestnut Street to its intersection with Walnut Street.

Part 2: The City Manager shall cause parking signs to be erected at such locations, as are necessary to make this change in the parking zone applicable to the above referenced portion(s) of Pecan Street.

Part 3: The City Manager, City Secretary, and Police Department are hereby authorized and directed to grant exceptions to this "Restricted Parking
Zone" for: (1) property owners or occupants whose property abuts Chestnut Street and/or Walnut Street. Additionally, the City Manager or Police Chief may, at their discretion, in the future, direct that signs be posted indicating that the above referenced zone is a "Towing Zone," wherein towing of vehicles may be conducted by the City, if such is necessary in the opinion of the Chief of Police for proper and effective enforcement of the Restricted Parking status.

Part 4: The City Manager and City Secretary are hereby authorized and directed to make necessary changes to all records of the City of Bastrop to reflect this amendment.

Part 5: This Ordinance becomes effective in accordance with the terms and provisions of the City Charter and State law.
