AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
"SCHEDULE V: SCHOOL ZONES" OF THE
BASTROP CITY CODE - CHAPTER 10, TRAFFIC CONTROL: SECTION 10.406, TO
INCLUDE AN ADDITIONAL SCHOOL ZONE ON HAWTHORN STREET BETWEEN STATE
HIGHWAY 95 AND HILL STREETS (WEST OF STATE HIGHWAY 95 AND EAST OF
HILL STREET), ESTABLISHING DAYS AND HOURS FOR SAME, AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bastrop
recognizes the need to provide safe conditions for the those traveling
on public streets within the City and for the school children of the
community; and
WHEREAS,
pursuant to study and input from the Bastrop Police Department concerning
safety issues related to the speed limit appropriate for Hawthorn
Street between State Highway 95 and Hill Streets, the City Council
desires to decrease the speed limit thereon from the general speed
limit of 30 miles per hour, down to 20 miles per hour, and
WHEREAS,
Section 10.503 of the Bastrop Code of Ordinances authorizes the City
Secretary to prepare and maintain a special schedule reflecting speed
limits within the City of Bastrop which vary from the general speed
limit(s) noted in Section 10.502 of the City Code; and
WHEREAS,
the City has determined that Hawthorn Street between State Highway
95 and Hill Streets should be added to the areas with speeds controlled
as school zones, in order to protect public health, safety, and welfare.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BASTROP, TEXAS:
PART 1:
That "Schedule V: School Zones" in Section 10.406, Chapter
10 of the Bastrop City Code, which schedule is kept on file in the office
of the City secretary, shall be, and it is hereby, amended to include
an additional school zone noted below and to read as follows:
Sec. 10.406 Schedule V: School Zones
(15) On Hawthorn Street, between State Highway 95 and Hill Streets.
PART 2: The hours and days of operation of this school zone shall
be as are established in Section 10.406 of the City Code, i.e., beginning
at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 10:00 a.m. and beginning again at 3:00 p.m.
and ending at 5:00 p.m. on days when public schools are in session.
PART 3: This amendment to "Schedule V: School Zones",
referenced in Section 10.406 of Chapter 10 of the Bastrop City Code,
supercedes any contrary provisions previously adopted by the Council.
Any provisions of "Schedule V: School Zones," that are not
amended hereby shall remain in full force and effect.
PART 4: This Ordinance
shall take effect upon final adoption, in accordance with the laws
of the State of Texas. The amended "Schedule V: School Zones"
shall be kept on file in the office of the City Secretary.

Reading on the 12th day of September 2006. READ and ADOPTED on Second
Reading on the 26th day of September 2006.
