AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BASTROP,
TEXAS ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES FOR THE SELECTION OF
ELECTION JUDGE(S) AND ALTERNATE JUDGE(S); ESTABLISHING
COMPENSATION FOR ELECTION JUDGE(S), ALTERNATE ELECTION
JUDGE(S) AND ELECTION CLERKS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the laws of the State of Texas further provides that
the Election Code of the State of Texas is applicable to Elections,
and in order to comply with the Code, an Ordinance should be passed
establishing the procedure for the selection of election judge(s)
and alternate judge(s) and for establishing compensation for election
judge(s) and election clerks; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BASTROP THAT:
Part 1: The City Secretary is hereby authorized to advertise
for applicants who desire to be appointed by the City Council to fill
the positions of Election Judge(s) and Alternate Election Judge(s)
for the City of Bastrop.
Part 2: The Election Judge(s) shall be selected from the applicants
and appointed by the City Council. The individuals appointed as Election
Judge(s) shall appoint the Election Clerks, in a number not to exceed
four (4) clerks.
Part 3: Election Judge(s) shall be paid at a rate of $10.00
per hour, plus $25.00 for delivery of returns.
Part 4: Alternate Election Judge(s), when serving as Alternate(s),
shall be paid at a rate of $8.00 per hour.
Part 5: Election Clerks shall be paid at a rate of $8.00 per
hour.
Part 6: All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances
and resolutions, in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed,
and are no longer of any force and effect. If any provision of this
ordinance or application thereof to any person or circumstance shall
be held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions,
or application thereof, of this ordinance which can be given effect
without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to be severable.
Part 7: This Ordinance shall become effective upon adoption,
after approval at the Second Reading, which date is noted below.

2002.
READ and Adopted on Second Reading on the 10th day of December 2002.
