Sidewalk of Stars Handprints Project | |
| During the past several years Bastrop and the surrounding area has become a popular place for making Hollywood movies. Films such as "Home Fries", "Hope Floats", "L. A. Confidential", "Varsity Blues", and "Michael" all have a Bastrop connection.Former Council Woman, Clara Maynard, originated a plan to obtain handprints and signatures from the various stars of these films. The City plans to use the prints in a future as yet unscheduled sidewalk project similar to Hollywood's walk in front of "Grauman's Chinese Theater", only with a Bastrop flare, if you will. | |

| Shown contributing his prints is Dennis Quaid, star of "The Rookie" currently being filmed in this area. Seen with Quaid are Chamber of Commerce President, Laura Terhune, who coordinates this project with the stars and their representatives. City of Bastrop, Public Works Director, Monty Blackmon and his staff provide the muscle and know how needed to actually obtain the prints. | |

| Some prints already on file are: Drew Barrymore, Shelly Duvall,
Catherine O'Hara, Jake Busey, Lanny Flanery, Luke Wilson and Dean Persat
from "Home Fries"; Guy Pearce from "L.A. Confidential"; Jon Voight from
"Varsity Blues", and Willie Nelson.
Also included are prints of some of Texas' famous political personalities: former President and First Lady, George and Barbara Bush, former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, and former Johnson Press Secretary, Liz Carpenter. | |
