SRO's ensure a safe and secure environment for teaching and learning. The police officers are currently assigned to ensure that the school district has sufficient security and protection of all students, staff, and property of the district. Each officer is highly visible at their respective campus, working in uniform.

Their duties are divided between: enforcement of the law, investigations, crime prevention and as a resource to the teaching staff, and teaching themselves. In addition, they help identify and resolve neighborhood issues surrounding their respective schools.

With a nationwide increase in school violence, the Bastrop Police Department has done its best to make sure that each officer is highly trained beyond the state mandated training in several areas pertaining to juvenile law enforcement all other aspects. As the school district continues to grow rapidly, accordingly the police department will have to grow to keep up with the student population.
